Purebred Nubian Senior Does

A few years ago we were working on an export and gathering bucks. We picked up twins that had different sires. A buck got loose and DNA proved the sires of each kid. I joked for years that this was going to be my new breeding program. The more I  thought about how different those bucks were, the more it made sense to me. It's like using IVF without all the expense. A buck gives you kids from many different does. Does are a much slower process being stuck using one buck a year. Using more than one buck speeds up the diversity and pinpoints the better crosses. I've tried it several times and love the results so I've embraced this new Double Dipping breeding program! Many of the does will be bred to two or more sires. All kids will be DNA typed to determine sires.

Ananke is one of my favorites and reminds so much of our Winterberry foundation animals, especially Alibi, her great, great granddam.  Ananke freshened with a lovely udder with a very well attached, long smooth foreudder. She is a big powerful deep bodied doe with that beautiful dairy wedge I love to see. First two tests as a yearling were 8.6 & 9.0 pounds and she did not disappoint us as a 2 year old with her first test 11.1. Her next couple of lactations were with singles and didn't do as well. She finished her championship as a 2 year old, making her our first 5th generation SGCH Starfire doe.  Bred to Clark and due December. No does available.

Phlavia is our first daughter from Phae, blonde and beautiful like her dam and she knows it. She is a carbon copy of her dam, just so elegant, she takes your breath away, just not the udder or production Phae had. She is a tall long and level doe with a beautiful  wide, level rump. Hoping she comes into more milk as she matures.

Meli is a product of our double dipping. Her two sisters were sired by another buck and as different as night and day. Meli has a longer bone pattern and is sharper and more dairy than her sisters but you'd never know at this point after being dried after each freshening from mastitis she is just a tad chunky but ohhh, that board level topline! She also happens to be the only doe kid from our purchase of Kryptonite, son to Pika the 3 time National Champion. As a yearling, she freshened 10 days early and did not come into as much milk as the other yearlings. As excited as we were about her, she developed mastitis, has been treated by several products recommended by our vet and  dried off to heal. After two more freshenings and many more treatments, we have not been able to "fix" her udder. We have one more trick up our sleeve so she will have one more chance. Bred to Clark, Manjelly and Darius and due December/January.

Nebula is another product of our double dipping. She and her sister Omarosa were sired by Bourbon and Meli by Kryptonite. Such different kids! At her debut as a yearling milker she was twice Reserve Grand Champion picking up her first milking leg. In 2020 with very limited shows she was four times Reserve Grand Champion and one time Grand Champion picking up her second leg and finishing her championship at her first show this year. She is a  very much like her dam being very level and correct on strong feet and legs. Bred to Huckleberry and due March 29.

Phergie has her mother's elegance and then some. She is long and level with strong feet and legs. She freshened with a very well attached udder with her dam's perfect teat placement, reminding me very much of Angelia's udder as a yearling, maybe better.  It's been a long time since I've been this excited over a doe. At her first show as a kid she was Grand Champion and at her first show as a milking doe she finished her championship going two times Grand Champion. Looking for big things from this beautiful doe as she matures.

Omarra is a doe that caught my eye every time visiting Dancers Ridge. At one point seeing her fresh, I knew she needed to come join us here at Starfire and worked on Thiry for a long time before she actually agreed to let her come here. Omarra is a stunning doe, everything we strive to breed for in Nubians. I'm incredibly thankful to have her come here to be shown. Look for her in 2022! Bred to Huckleberry and due April 12th. No does available.

I've never been a fan of having bucks until Thoreau came into my life. He was the sweetest and one of the most correct bucks I've ever owned. I was devastated when he went sterile. We only got one doe from him and finished her as a 2 year old at her first show as a milker. We sold several of our best does to a new herd starting out and Lily was sold to them as a bred doe. So when these two Thoreau daughters became available, I didn't need more goats but couldn't let them go. Loretta is bred to Clark and due March 3rd.

Gena inherited Steel's zinc deficiency and struggles with it even with loads of ZinPro. She has a well attached udder with a nice high wide rear. Just needs to get past that chicken leg look! She dried up early after refusing to walk over the mud in the barn after a particularly wet fall. I stopped chasing goats to milk them 20 years ago so she will have a very short record. Bred to Huckleberry and due March 13.

Lexi and her sister are flashy solid does for yearlings. Lexi freshened with a well attached udder and so far does not look like a fresh yearling. She never skipped a beat after dropping her kid and gets so excited to come out to be milked. Bred to Eddie and due April 21.
